Watu Wangu means 'my people'. The name wishes to express the feeling that all people in the world are connected as one big family. Family members supporting each other with each other's development. Watu Wangu is an organisation that wishes to stimulate development through co-operation and investments.
Watu Wangu aims at the area surrounding Tulia in Mutonguni District in Kitui, Kenya. This is about 150km east/southeast of Nairobi. By joining us on one of our journeys, you will experience a very special vacation, adventurous and interesting. You can participate in realizing development projects. The revenues of the journey will be used for the project. You will also be stimulating progress in the area through the investments and employment aggregated by the accomodation and care for you and your traveling companions.

Welcome to Watu Wangu Foundation!
We organize special journeys to Kenya. Learn about the real life in Kenya. Enjoy the beautiful nature. Let the richness of the culture surprise you. Be inspired by the hospitality and zest for life of the people. Book a wildlife safari and go fotograph the animals for which Kenya is rightfully famous. Part of the revenues of the journeys will be spent on building the childrens home. Furthermore you can actively participate with the building of the childrens home.
For a few weeks you will be part of the village community of Tulia. U will be staying in a hut after local custom, which we have built under our own management (which the locals have baptised 'Watu Wangu Private Lodge Beach', because it is built on the shore of Mithiini River), you will get acquainted with the local culture and enjoy traditonally prepared regional and local dishes.
You can actively help on one of the development projects we support, like building a childrens home (Watu Wetu Childrens Home) and supporting the local handicapt school (Tulia Primary School for Special Needs Children). You can also take a look and even assist at the local primary school or medical clinic. And of course you will find out all about every daty life of a Kenyan family. Fetching water from the river. Gathering fire wood. Cooking on a fire. Going to the market.
This is also a marvellous experience for anyone who would like to work in a third world country for a while, but doesn't know what awaits him or her there. Experience it!
Wildlife safari's
We also organize a few 3-day wildlife safari's, giving you the opportunity to photograph the animals for which Kenya is so rightfully famous. These safari's must be booked seperately. You can book these safari's before hand or in Kenya. Included in the basic journey is a reconnaissance of the surrounding area, such as Nzambani Rock (see picture).
Your travel guide will be Hellen Mbathi. She was born in Kenya and has lived in The Netherlands since 1989. With one leg in each culture, she is the ideal person to guide you on this adventure.
