Our main project and the focus of our activities is the construction and operation of an orphanage in the town of Tulia, Kitui District, Kenya. The children's home will provide care for up to 60 orphans, who have often lost their parents to AIDS or other diseases or who have been abandoned. Traditonally children were taken care of by relatives or others in the community, but the huge increase of their numbers in this already poor region has become a major problem. Hence the need for an extra care facility. We offer a home where they will find loving care and we make sure they receive an education, preparing them for life on their own two feet. Watu Wangu Children's Centre is the only childrens home in the area.

Another important project is the construction of some boreholes. Not only for the use of the children's home, but also for local residents. Tulia is located in one of the driest areas of Kenya, where water is scarce and water facilities are therefore urgently needed.

Together with many voluteers we have worked very hard to get this result and we are greatful of what we have been allowed to achieve sofar. However, none of this would have happened without the support of our many donors. We thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their commitment and generosity.

Construction
From 2007 through March 2011 the children's home was constructed. An office, four dormitories, two bathroom buildings, a dining hall and a kitchen, a storage room, staff quarters, a borehole, fencing with gates, a playing field and an installation with some large water storage tanks have arisen. On April 30, 2011 Watu Wangu Children's Centre has been officially opened and is now in use. Currently we care for 19 children in the ages from four through nine years. A staff of eleven takes care of the children and the children's home.

The management
From April 2011 the children's centre is fully operational. The housing, caring and education of children costs, also in Kenya, a lot of money. For this we are depending on your support!

This can take the form of occasional gifts or regular donations. With periodic contributions you could go one step further by committing yourself for a longer period of time. This is what we call 'financial adoption, because you will contribute to the structural costs of clothing, food and drink, education and more. Details on this form of support can be found here.

There are other options to help us. Let us organize your holiday in Kenya or your wildlife safari or book a stay at our Lodge. Details on this subject can be found here.

We have room for volunteers, who will help with the daily affairs at the children's home. As part of a study or internship or for personal reasons. Details on this subject can be found here. We hope and count on your support. Many thanks in advance!
